How Elegantly Odd Jewels Began with a Love for Affordable Jewels
Hi, I’m Lucy – the heart behind Elegantly Odd.
My love for jewels started with a very simple truth: not all of us can afford the really expensive stuff. Don’t get me wrong – I adore luxury jewellery (who doesn’t?), but my day-to-day life has always been filled with costume jewellery. To me, it’s just as impactful – maybe even more so – because it allows you to change your look instantly, without the price tag.
A little background before I dive into the heart of Elegantly Odd:
Back in 2006, I founded my very own fashion business. For 18 wonderful years, I nurtured it with absolute TLC, watching it grow and flourish until it was time to close one chapter and start another. In 2024, I sold the business to focus on a huge new adventure for my family and me – moving to the USA. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to oversee operations to my (yes, slightly micro-managing!) standard, we decided the best option was to sell. I’m proud to say the business is still alive and thriving today. Thank-you, Nat.
The spark for Elegantly Odd came during one of my Miami trips (pictured). I’d only taken hand luggage – which, if you’ve ever worked in fashion, you’ll know is practically impossible. The idea of a “capsule wardrobe” sounded great in theory, but in practice I was panicking about feeling underdressed, especially since we were staying at the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel and Casino...(No beginners luck for me!)
So, I stripped it all back: a few plain white and black tees, some patterned wide-leg trousers, and a skirt I could mix and match. The real magic, though, came from my jewels. I packed my most colourful, exotic, beaded earrings and necklaces. Suddenly, my simple outfits transformed – evening glam achieved, without needing a suitcase full of chaotic options.
It was a revelation: hand luggage and I were a match made in heaven. From then on, I never looked back. That moment was the seed (bead) that grew into Elegantly Odd.
This brand is about jewellery that makes you feel unique, confident, and a little bit bold – whether it’s for a weekend away, a day-to-night event, or just because you want to add some sparkle to your everyday look. Think statement earrings that turn a plain t-shirt into an outfit, or necklaces that get people saying “I love your necklace?”
